Loell Anthony Ernst, 71, of Baytown, Texas, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026. Loell was born August 18, 1954, in Baytown to parents Fred and Joann Ernst. He grew up in Baytown and graduated from Lee High School, and later attended a year of college. Loell met the love of his life, Gennie, at a cookoff, and they were married in February of 1995.
Loell was considered a jokester and a laid-back guy who would go out of his way to help someone in need. He never met a stranger, his friendliness shining through to everyone he met. Loell was always someone you could count on to show up. He deeply cherished his great-grandchildren, never missing a sporting event so he could be in the stands to cheer them on. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending much of his free time hunting and fishing. He was a devoted Astros fan and enjoyed playing sports recreationally himself, participating in senior softball. Loell was the light and laughter of his family and will always be loved and greatly missed.
Loell is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Joann Ernst, his grandparents, his sister, Alicia Huesdian, and his daughter, Melissa Edwards. Loell is survived by his wife, Gennie Ernst, his son, Thomas Ernst, his grandson, Tyler Edwards and wife Shailey, his great-grandchildren, Jaleigh and Jagger, his brothers, Darren Ernst and wife Michelle, and Byron Ernst and wife Karen, his aunt, Diana Harlan, along with many more family and friends.
A visitation for Loell will take place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral and Cremation Services. A funeral service will follow on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 11:00 am at Crespo & Jirrels.
